First destination of Madagascar, the South Region is renowned by Massif of Isalo and Andringitra Mountain. It is characterized by the highland landscape dotted with rice-cropped field, traditional houses built in red soil, and the typically Malagasy “tamboho” or “walls” found nowhere else.
The tour takes you to the spa town of Antsirabe, the volcanic lake Tritriva and Andraikiba, and continues to Ambositra, famous for the marquetry and the village Zafimaniry, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The adventure on the national road 7 (RN7) is also the visit of Ambalavao and its Anteimoro paper making workshop as well as its zebu market; the visit of the huge plateau of Ihorombe and its steppe and savannah landscape; but also the Mahafaly tombs with bright colors, whose drawings represent the scene of life of the Ancestor.
After the passage through Ranohira National Park, refuge of endemic animal and vegetable species, heading towards the seaside resort of Anakao and Ifaty with its beaches of fine white sand, decorated by canoes with multicolored sails.
Itinerary
Day 1 : ANTANANARIVO – ANTSIRABE
Departure to Antsirabe, the water city of Madagascar. Crossing to a typical landscape of the highlands sprinkled by rice fields and traditionals houses. Visit of a forging at Ambatolampy. In the afternoon, visit of Tritriva and Andraikiba lakes. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
Day 2 : ANTSIRABE – FIANARANTSOA
Driving to Fianarantsoa, the capital of Betsileo’s ethnicities,. Stop at Ambositra, renowned for handicraft and marquetry. Showroom visit. Arrival at Fianarantsoa, visit of the upper city, classified as world heritage of UNESCO : traditional house, church. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
Day 3 : FIANARANTSOA – RANOHIRA
Travelling to Ranohira and stop at Ambalavao, renowned for Antemoro paper and silk manufacture. Visit of workshop. Visit of famous market of the zebus of […] Ambalavao (on Wednesdays). In the afternoon, crossing of the South gateway and the the plateau of Ihorombe. Landscapes of steppe and savanna.. Visit of the « Fenêtre de l’ Isalo » at sunset. Dinner and overnight at the hotel..
Day 4 : RANOHIRA
The whole day dedicated for visiting the Isalo National Park : The canyon of Lemurs and Cascade of Nymphs Lunch picnic Swimming in the natural pools of the park: the Turquoise blue and the Black Swimming Pools Dinner and overnight at the hotel..
Day 5 : RANOHIRA – TULEAR- IFATY
Free morning. In the Afternoon, departure to Ifaty, the sea Resort of the South of Madagascar Admiration of Mahafaly decorated tombs along the way. Dinner and overnight at the hotel..
Day 6 : IFATY
Relaxing and swimming at the beach of Ifaty. Dinner and overnight at the hotel..
Day 7 : TULÉAR – ANTANANARIVO
Transfer to Tuléar Airport and flight for Antananarivo. Depending on the flight Schedule, discovery of the Capital and its neiborhood : The Upper City, the Craft Market
